August 29, 2005 Students! Parents! Classes begin: September 6th! I’m letting the Tuesday people get started after the first day of school this time because I have some kindergartners starting this year! (Yay Emma and Jake!) However, Wednesday folk: I’ll see you the 7th! THEORY: Beginning September 25th, students who have theory books are expected to schedule approximately fifteen minutes during REGULAR STUDIO HOURS to either correct or to actually do (if you....forgot) your weekly theory assignment. There will be a set up so that you can also do the Ear Training. Use the Korg electronic piano to do any sight reading exercises. Suggested times to schedule this theory work are: during a sibling’s lesson, during a friend’s lessons, directly before or after your own lesson or during any pre-arranged time during regular studio hours.
However, please Do NOT plan on staying during any of these times: - During my “Break” periods. - Before your lesson, if you are the first student of the day - After your lesson, if you are the last student of the day You cooperation is deeply appreciated. PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT: I will be sending home a practice questionnaire that originally I thought I would have parents fill out, but now I think I will have the students themselves fill out. Parents are encouraged to look at it and suggest answers to their children that they think are appropriate from their own view of the child’s practice. Nevertheless! I want the child to have the final decision on what they decide to answer. As I mentioned in the sign up letter, please direct your child to prepare and bring a weekly schedule of school and other activities to the lesson so that we can together discuss what they will be trying to do each week in terms of practice goals. MUSIC FEE ACTIVITIES: I want to encourage those of you who have another year to go before you receive the next festival trophy to “go for” it. I also want to encourage students who have been doing national ten piece MEMORIZED GUILD programs for the last five years or more to continue to keep that goal in front of you. For all of you, however, I would love to try my own idea of hmmmm shall we call it the “Bock Studio Awards” event. This will include awards for all participants, repertoire requirements that better reflect not only what I want you to learn this year, but also things that YOU actually chose or learned outside of the regular repertoire assigned. This event would be judged by people I know personally to be qualified and whom I hire to adjudicate this event for us. This is going to be an exciting event because the kids are going to help me create it to be what THEY would like it to be! More info to come at the first group classes! If you want to participate in Festival, Guild or another event that I have not mentioned, please let me know that at your first lesson. I will then ask you/your parent to send in a deposit toward each of those activities. Balance to be finalized at time of event. I can’t wait to get started again this year!
